Here’s a round up of my favorite products that I use nearly every day. I do like to change it up every now and then, but for the most part, these are the basic colors and formulas that I love to use. I’ll try to keep this short . . .
I abso-poopin-lutely need a primer. I have found that without it, my makeup slides and creases – not cute. The best one I have tried is the Hourglass Mineral Veil. This is a lightweight, sheer gel-ish cream. As you glide it on, it feels like your skin turns to satin. I have been using this trial size for while and still, have quite a bit left – a little bit is all you need. I will be purchasing a full size, believe me. Ready for that base.
Foundation is my favorite makeup product to try and I rotate several. Lately, Makeup Forever Ultra HD has been on repeat. It provides decent coverage, yet doesn’t feel heavy. I would say it is a medium coverage foundation, seeing that I do still need light coverage over blemishes and red spots. As for the formula and texture, it is quite smooth and creamy. I tend to blend it out with a damp beauty blender for my preferred effect. This creates an airbrushed finish on my skin, blurring imperfections. Another thing to note is that I like the packaging, it has a pump dispenser which helps control the amount of product you use. I use the lightest color in their range, Y205, and it’s a great match for me.
Now it’s time to spot conceal and hide those purple bags. Finding a concealer that is light enough for me has been a lifelong challenge, especially one that is decent. Because of this, I tend to only use high-end brands, seeing that they provide a greater shade range than drugstore brands, though there are some more affordable options. My ride or die concealer is definitely Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly. It’s a cult favorite and for good reason. It just works. The coverage is high, formula creamy, and the shade range is wide. Price point . . . *cries* but what are you gonna do. Those bags aren’t going away! How many have I repurchased? Too many.
I love to set my base with powder. I believe this creates a lovely matte effect that I prefer over being too dewy. It also locks the base in place and helps control shine during the day, as I tend to get oily in the middle of my face. I have been using Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Setting Powder, as it provides some coverage and doesn’t look cakey. I also love the packaging and that it comes with a puff compartment.
Do you contour? I do. I love it. I have a round face and pale skin. Contouring helps me define my features and not look like a full moon, heh. The only contour I use is the Sephora Brand Contour in Tranquil. It’s a light gray taupe color with cool undertones – perfect for a fair complexion! I have been using this same pot for over a year. I’m serious. I even bought another a few months back as a backup and it’s collecting dust in my drawer. I don’t get it. It’s the never ending contour. Something that I love about it is that I heavily swirl my brush, the Zoeva angled contour brush, and no powdery residue forms. It just stays on the brush and then I buff it into the hollows of my cheeks with some attempt at a technique. Voila – cheekbones.
Now to add some color! Blush is so much fun to switch up. I tend to vary it daily, but I usually stick with similar colors and formulas. A powder is my go-to and I love dusty rose pinks. My favorites are Tarte Exposed, Hourglass Ethereal Gow, Nars Impassioned. But my oldest and most trusted blusher is MAC Well Dressed. Again, this thing lasts for ages, I haven’t even hit pan. She just adds the most beautiful, subtle rosy sheen to my cheeks. That’s the base done so let’s move to eyes.
Another one of my most repurchased products has to be the Hourglass Brow Arch Sculpt Pencil. Eyebrows seriously are so important to your overall look and this product makes it so easy. The color I use is called Platinum Blonde, and it’s a perfect match for me. Kind of an ashy dust color and the pen twists out to show a wedge-like shape. It can be big to get a precise line, but I like the rough edge, bushy look to my brows and it’s easy to smudge out mistakes with your finger. It also has an attached spoolie on the other end. As far as packaging, it is just stunning! It has a heavy lux feel to it; it’s just a pleasure to use.
As for eyeshadow, I’m stuck in a rut with routine. I tend to slap on a taupe gray shade in my crease and lower lid to define the socket and then a lighter shade on the upper lid. Super boring, but it makes your eyes look bigger and it is so easy for anyone to do to look a little more glam. This helps me save time every day. For this look, I have been using the Nars Duo in Bellissima. If I’m feeling cheeky, I throw on some liner and maybe smoke it out a bit with some darker shades. I then glide on copious amounts of mascara to my upper and lower lashes, but only after I’ve intensely curled them with my Shu Umera Lash Curler. The mascara I use switches between Too Faced Better Than Sex and Cover Girl Lash Blast, the orange one. Both plump up your lashes and hold my curl quite well.
My choice of lip color changes every single day. There are too many favorites to name them all, but stains tend to be my favorite formula for all day wear. The best stain I own is the Cover Girl Stains. They can be hard to find nowadays, but they still make them. The color is very pigmented and it sinks into your lips and lasts for hours. I like stains because they fade naturally and look like it’s simply the natural color of your lips. If I’m going to lipstick, it’s gotta be Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy – just a beautiful formula and a perfect everyday color.
And the finishing touch – highlighter! I don’t do this every single day, crazy I know, but it definitely adds a pop to your look. My favorite at the moment is the Makeup Forever Pro Light Fusion in 1 Golden Pink. It is divine! It adds this dazzling pink champagne iridescence to your skin that makes you glow. I have had several compliments on my skin because of this baby. Another favorite is MAC Lightscapade.
And that’s it! Whew! Now for a spritz of rosewater mist and I’m good to go.
