Here’s a list of some of my long term, holy grail products, as well as some newer additions that I’m already loving.
My OG skincare product is without a doubt the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer. I have been using this for ages and it has stuck with me throughout the years. Sure, I’ve used up a few jars of the Belif Aqua Bomb, which is amazing btw, as well as Sunday Rileys Tidal. But this just is something I can’t live without. First of all, you can purchase multiple sizes all the way up to 8.4 fluid ounces down to 2.5. This was important to me because I moisturize a lot and I wanted a bottle that will last me longer than three weeks. The formula is quite light and just sinks into my skin, leaving it dewy and quenched. This is not a thick cream, yet it still packs in so much hydration. It also comes with an SPF version, but I like to use a separate sunscreen daily, as I use this in my night time and morning routine. My one critique is that I would very much like a pump dispenser for dosing out exact proportions.
Around early last year, I got into facial oils and haven’t looked back. I’ve tried a few different brands, but the one I reached for the most was the Herbivore Botanicals Orchid Facial Oil. While others that I have tried have been too thick and heavy, this is so lovely and light on my skin, and it smells divine! I tend to squirt a few lines on my cheeks and press it in with my hands, spreading it out over my face. This has orchid extract, a strong antioxidant, as well as camellia flower oil and jasmine sambac oil, both promoting skin elasticity.
The Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray is something that I love to use all day. I like to use it after I cleanse my face before I apply my oils, or to set my makeup. I also love to use it in the afternoons when I hit that midday slump and need a refreshing boost. I’ve used it to dampen my face before applying masks and also on my blender sponge to apply my makeup base. It can be so versatile which makes it a staple in my collection. There are so many benefits of rose water from its antibacterial properties to pH balancing. It is also an anti-inflammatory, reducing irritation and redness.
To help me tone my skin and also keep blemishes at bay, I’ve started using the Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toning Solution. This is the newest addition to my skincare collection, but I can already tell you it is here to stay. I am not new to glycolic acid, having used lotions in the past, but I see that my skin prefers it in this liquid form over lotions. I feel like it is milder and less irritating. While using this, my skin has clearly become more toned and I have much smoother texture. I don’t use it every single night because I feel I don’t need it, but more like three times a week when my complexion is dull.
To fight acne, I always like to have the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo with me. This is a benzoyl peroxide acne treatment and it is the most effective one I have found. I believe it is because the amount in it (5.5%) is just right. This allows it to be used as a targeted spot treatment for active blemishes as well as an all over treatment for closed comedones and whiteheads. I have found that a product with too little percentage is ineffective and one with too high a percentage is over-drying and causes irritation. Of course, everyone’s skin is different, but this is what works best for my combo/oily skin type.
In my early twenties, an eye cream was something that I scoffed at. Now as I’m approaching my third decade, I want all the eye products! Fine lines are a real thing, people! So I picked up this Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream and so far, I am happy with it. It is very creamy and I have noticed a smoother texture. As someone that hasn’t used many eye creams before, I’m not sure what to expect, but I believe it is something that is important to start using early because if you wait too long it might be too late. I haven’t used it all up, so until then, I will let you know if I’m going to repurchase this or not. If you have a holy grail eye cream, please, let me know!
